This blog serves as an online sketch book, recording my progress as a studio artist. My goal is for this sketch book to be fluid and organic in nature rather than following a strict, linear progression of my work. Currently I am working on a series which focuses on women’s issues. The design has always intrigued me, in fact, it has intimidated me. This is a strong, no-nonsense, utensil. No trendy design here, just brute, industrial strength. I’ve tried to get rid of it, but quite honestly, I’m scared to. So, in an attempt to overcome any irrational, psychological issues I have with this tool, I am going to complete some studies from various angles from which some finished pieces will be added to my current work.</p> <p>I have taken some steps in the still life set-up to maintain consistency. The<em> top left photo</em> shows how I marked the position of my easel with tape on the floor. When the easel is moved while working, I’ll know where to roll it back.</p> <p>While working on the initial drawing, I sometimes use a view-finder pictured on the <em>top right</em>. It can be adjusted to match the proportions of the canvas, panel or paper. I’ve made my own as well from mat board.</p> <p>The<em> bottom left photo</em> shows the juicer in position with some pieces of black tape I place for visual reference when looking through the view-finder. It’s difficult to hold the view-finder in exactly the same place repeatedly, so the tape marks the spot, aligning with the top middle and the bottom middle. </p> <p><em>The bottom right photo</em> is a shot looking through the view-finder’s window. This is the first composition I will work with.</p> <p>Tedious? Maybe. Worth it for consistency?
