Good art read - Why Art Cannot Be Taught.
Anyone else struggle with this? Recognizing that my best work happens when I act unconsciously, I am trying to put aside or temporarily “forget” all the academic training while in studio. I have also been reading Why Art Cannot be Taught by James Elkins, finding the in-depth history of art instruction helpful in understanding the different approaches to teaching art and how it has changed throughout history relative to art movements. (Also good therapy for resolving whatever frustrations I carry with me from art school days!)
